The Women’s Golf team is hosting the 7th Annual Smith Memorial/Rally for the Cure golf Tournament on Thursday, October 3rd at the Country Club of Newberry. The tournament is a tournament in honor of my parents who lost their battles with cancer in 2004 and 2006. Neither of my parents had breast cancer but the tournament is a way to show my appreciation for supporting me through the years, a way to raise awareness about a form of cancer that has a high rate of survival with early detection, and an opportunity for a competitive high school girls golf event.
The Smith Memorial is the longest running high school Rally for the Cure event in the United States. Since its inception this event has raised over 13, 000 dollars for breast cancer awareness. Much of those funds have been distributed locally.
