Gators Go Undefeated Against White Knoll 10-0 in Season Opener
During their season opener, the River Bluff bowling team got off to a slow start during team game number one but with momentum shifting strikes in the 9th and 10th frames by Logan Dixon and a clutch 10th frame by Austin Jones, the Gators pulled out a first game win against the Timberwolves. Riding that momentum shift, the Gators came out hot in game two and built up a nice lead as they went into baker match play riding some great performances by rookies Sean Pollworth and Brett Neeley.
The Gators continued on riding their momentum during baker competition. White Knoll struggled during the first half of game one in baker matches allowing the Gators to build enough of a lead to seal the win for that game. However, the Timberwolves did find their rhythm at the end of that match and went neck and neck in game 2.
Going into the last two frames of baker game 2 tied, the Gators undefeated season opener was on the line. It all came down to shots by Paul Horn and Austin Jones. White Knoll struck first in the ninth frame putting added pressure on Horn to match the shot and set up Jones in the 10th. Under pressure, Horn was able to strike as well keeping the score tied going to the last bowler.
The Timberwolves took the first shot in the 10th and had an unfortunate split that Jones was able to capitalize on. Jones got up and rattled off three straight strikes to seal the clean sweep for the Gators.
After the first night of competition in the Greater Columbia High School Bowling League, the Gators are currently undefeated and sit atop the rankings as the only undefeated team in the league. Next week, the Gators compete at their home center, JC’s Lexington Bowl, on January 20th at 5 p.m. for their next match against Blythewood.
