Meet Recap

The Gators suffered their first losses of the season in week four versus defending league champ Dutch Fork. The match was every bit the shootout people were expecting between the two top teams in the league.

River Bluff came out strong and was able to build up a 77-pin lead after the first game. Even though Dutch Fork’s Brett Heim put up a 263 that game, some bad breaks allowed for River Bluff to build up a small buffer in total pin fall. Unfortunately this is where the tides would turn for the Gators.

Heim put up another big game during round two rattling off a 247, putting his average for the day at 255. That helped set up a shoot out between the two anchor bowlers for each team to decide which side would win game number two. Dutch Fork’s Chase Paschal split on his first ball taking some of the pressure off the Gators, but only for a moment. His clutch conversion and pursuing strike would give him a 234 to seal the win for the Silver Foxes by 14 pins that game.

Entering the Baker portion of competition, the Gators were now only up 63 pins for the match. The Gators fell during the first Baker game 202-213. The second game would see some spare conversion woes for the Gators leading to a 161-202 defeat. Due to some clutch performances by the veterans on the team, the Gators were able to hold it together enough to maintain their lead in total pin fall on the day just edging out the Silver Foxes 1970-1959.

The Gators split the match 4-6 with the Silver Foxes in what was one of the hardest fought matches for both teams of the entire season. Even though neither team had a blowout win, this match was filled with big scores and high energy and was definitely one of the most memorable matches of the season so far.

Highlights on the day for the Gators include strong performances by Austin Jones averaging 217, Sean Pollworth averaging 214, and Ryan Paradise averaging 180.

The results of this match still leave River Bluff two points in the lead over Dutch Fork in the standings. With both teams eyeing the league title and only two weeks left in the season, only time will tell who will come out on top.
