The River Bluff B-team found themselves a little outmanned against a larger, more athletic Spring Valley team Thursday night in The Swamp. Still, the Gators battled to an impressive 7-7 tie at the half.

River Bluff was unable to rely on their scrappy play to keep the game close in the second half, however. The Vikings ran off 20 unanswered points to win the game 27-7.

This was the Gator B-team’s last home game of the season. They will travel to Irmo next Thursday, October 19th for a 5:30 kickoff against the Yellowjackets.

Game Summary


Spring Valley connected on a pass of 45 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was good. Score was 7-0 in favor of the Vikings at the end of 1.


The Gators finally got moving in the 2nd quarter, but it took some help to get on the board. After driving into Spring Valley territory, River Bluff stalled and had to punt. The kick rolled down tot he Spring Valley 1 yard line. The Vikings broke off on a long run, though, and looked to be making their way back into scoring range, when the Gator defense stripped the ball and recovered it near their own 44. Unable to move the ball, River Bluff, punted again, but a roughing the kicker penalty gave the Gators the ball and a fresh set of downs. This time they were able to capitalize on the Vikings’ mistake and scored on a 24-yard pass play. The extra point knotted things up at 7, which was the score at the half.


Spring Valley tacked on 2 more touchdowns in the 3rd quarter. The Gators had a drive stall and turned the ball over on downs. After battling to a 7-7 tie in the first half, River Bluff found themselves down 2 scores, 21-7 as they headed into the 4th.


The Gators were, again, unable to mount a significant drive in the final quarter. Spring Valley found the end zone one more time but missed the extra point. The final score was 27-7.
