Early glimpses of the 2018-19 Gator football team can be seen for the next few days, as River Bluff takes to the gridiron during its annual Spring Practice. After months of weight room work and speed/agility training, the Gator players can finally take the practice field to put their strength, fitness, and attitudes to the test.
Coach Blair Hardin, in his second year at the helm, commenting on the opportunity for the coaching staff to gauge his team at this point, states, “[We] really look forward to evaluating our players, building those relationships, seeing the results from our off-season lifting/speed program, and seeing who’s going to be our leaders.”
And there’s a certain air around the practice field…as though this is not the same River Bluff team as last year’s squad. While they plan on building upon last year’s abilities to play hard as a team, the Gators will look to turn those efforts into solid wins for the program.
Some areas in which Coach Hardin hopes to improve his team are in “eliminating mental mistakes, blocking and tackling, and playing four complete quarters” of quality football.
Although the Gators are admittedly young, they are a more confident group. Coach Hardin claims that fans should see a “faster and stronger Gator team, which will be more multiple on offense” and says to expect more balance this upcoming season in throwing and running the football. He also adds that Gator Nation may even see a few new wrinkles each week on Friday nights.
Coach Hardin’s excitement about his young men and coaches is infectious, giving promise to a new team and a new season. Spring Practice lasts from May 7th to May 31st, culminating with the Spring Game on the 31st.
