Last Thursday night’s first annual Spring Game for River Bluff’s football program gave fans a glimpse at the varsity squad for the upcoming 2018 season. The weather cooperated and the atmosphere was nothing but positive as the Gators took the field in the culminating event of this year’s Spring football workouts.
Fans got a look at the current starting defensive and offensive units during the first series or two. After that, players were moved around and placed in different positions to give looks at numerous combinations and formations. As far as scoring went, the Green Team (defense) led in the early stages, only to be overtaken by the White Team (offense) for most of the 2nd portion of the scrimmage. However, the Green Team regained the lead and the “win” with a sack on the last play. The contest was fairly even, with both sides making impressive plays. While there is still plenty of work to do and improvements to be made, the Gators seem to be farther along at this time of year than they were at this time last season.
Head Coach and Athletic Director Blair Hardin is building a culture of hard work and a family-like environment. This was evident after the scrimmage ended and players were recognized for GPA excellence and weight room achievements. The night wound up with closing remarks from Coach Hardin and a barbecue dinner for the players, coaching staff, and their families.
