River Bluff had five wrestlers qualify for the SCHSL AAAAA Individual Wrestling State Championship this past weekend and four came back with medals. William “Tuna” Butler wrestled his way to the 160-pound division championship and won it with a first period pin, earning him a SCHSL AAAAA State Championship. Isaac Ortega dropped a decision in the Finals and took home State Runner-up in the 182 division. Ian Obesso fought his way to the Consolation semi-finals, where he ended up winning by decision to take 3rd in the Heavyweight division. Parker Palmer made it to the semifinals but dropped a close 4-3 decision, also earning him 3rd in the 145 division. Michael Keisler dropped a 10-6 decision in the semifinals in the 195 division.
Keisler, Ortega, Butler, and Palmer were also recently selected to the North-South All-Star Wrestling Team. They will represent River Bluff this coming weekend as members of Team SC and will battle Team NC in a dual match at North Myrtle Beach High School.
