One of River Bluff’s most successful athletic programs will see a change at the top for their new season, whenever that may be. Coach Evan Moxie, who led the Gators to a team State Championship, numerous individual state championships, four region championships and a mat-full of accolades, has been named Assistant Administrator at Westwood High School.

Taking the reins is Moxie’s assistant, Joe Cummings. Coach Cummings leadership will assure a smooth transition for the wrestling program. Even though Coach Moxie is leaving big shoes to fill, Cummings is definitely up to the challenge, and fans of the highly decorated grappling program will most likely not notice a drop-off in success.

Joe Cummings is originally from Valley Cottage, New York.  After graduating high school he went on to receive a wrestling scholarship from Appalachian State University, where he wrestled from 2011-2013.  After graduating in the spring of 2015, Cummings began his teaching and coaching career at River Bluff.  He has been teaching physical education and coaching wrestling for the past 5 years and has served as an assistant AD for the past 2 years. Cummings was the varsity assistant coach from 2015-2019 and the assistant head coach during the 2019-2020 season.  During his tenure at River Bluff, the Gators won a state title in 2017 and were state finalists in 2019.

New Head Coach – Joe Cummings
About his new position, Cummings says, “I am excited to have the opportunity to lead the wrestling program this upcoming season.  It is an honor to get to work at such a great school with an amazing group of kids.  I have been fortunate enough to work with this group of kids for the past 5 years and I look forward to working with them again this upcoming season.  We are going to train hard and strive to be the best that we can be on the mat and off.  I can’t wait to get started and to see what we can accomplish this upcoming season.”
Coach Taylor Bell, who has been an assistant coach for the Gators will remain as the assistant to Cummings. The wrestling program is still in search of another assistant. If interested, please contact Coach Cummings at jcummings@lexington1.net.

All the best to Coach Moxie in his new career endeavor, and best of luck to Coach Cummings as he leads the Gators to continued success on the mats!
